Ankle Sock

This garment is normally worn with trousers and is a small sock that covers the foot up to the ankle or, depending on the model, 4 or 5 centimeters above it.

Antipressure

An anti-pressure cuff on mini stockings or socks is a specific feature designed to maximize comfort, improve circulation, and prevent skin irritation. Made from soft, flexible, elastic materials, they fit comfortably around the leg without being too tight. This minimizes friction and potential irritation, making the sock more comfortable to wear for extended periods.

B

Bamboo

Bamboo fabric is made from the pulp of the bamboo cane. It is lightweight, durable, absorbent (absorbing three times its weight in water), and has antibacterial qualities that keep your body cool. Its absorbency and antibacterial properties contribute to its quick-drying ability, wicking moisture away from the skin so it can evaporate. Furthermore, bamboo fabric has insulating properties that will keep the wearer cooler in summer and warmer in winter.

Breathability

Breathable means that the fabric allows good airflow and does not retain moisture, removing it from the skin.

C

Centerpiece

You may have seen this term in the item description on the back of the packaging. It simply refers to an additional V-shaped piece that is usually sewn into the back of pantyhose. It’s designed to provide extra width in the panty area, giving it more room in that region. This piece can be between 7 and 14 cm wide, depending on the style and size.

Cotton

Cotton is a natural material that is soft, absorbent, and breathable. The gusset of pantyhose is made with this material to improve comfort and breathability in an area that may be subject to greater friction and heat.

D

Demarcation

The gusset in pantyhose is the area where the fabric density changes, typically from the waistband to the upper thigh. It’s a double-knit fabric, thicker, darker, and more durable, providing greater longevity in areas of higher friction or strain, especially the upper thighs and crotch area.

Denier

Denier is a unit of measurement in the imperial system, defined as the weight in grams per 9,000 meters of yarn. Sheer stockings range from 5 to 30 denier, while semi-sheer stockings range from 30 to 40 denier. Opaque stockings are those with 50 denier or more. Denier does not affect the finish of the material; it can be matte or glossy for both sheer and opaque stockings.

Diamond

A small piece of fabric, named for its shape, sewn into the crotch for greater comfort, fit, and personal hygiene. The simplest gussets are made of the same material as the rest of the garment. Cotton gussets are ideal because they are made of a natural material that ensures better hygiene and breathability. Designs without gussets simply leave the crotch open.

E

Elastane

Elastane is an elastic yarn, also called Spandex. This yarn is combined with polyamide to provide greater elasticity and a better fit in pantyhose. Several companies manufacture this type of yarn under brands such as Lycra, Dorlastan, and Nisshinbo.

F

Finish

Pantyhose can have different finishes:

• Matte: These are items without shine. When the pantyhose is sheer, they give a second-skin look, as this finish makes them virtually imperceptible. The matte finish is elegant and simple, suitable for everyday wear.

• Subtle Sheen or Soft Shine: A slight sheen, especially in sheer pantyhose, enhances the appearance of the skin, concealing imperfections and providing a very flattering makeup effect. This finish makes the garment very versatile, suitable for all occasions, including business meetings or nights out.

• Shiny: Shimmery pantyhose are those that, especially when light hits them, are visible on the legs. While they may not be the most suitable for everyday wear, they are perfect for events, nights out, or any special occasion that calls for a festive outfit, as they enhance the overall look.

• High Shine: Very shiny pantyhose, including items with a wet-look effect, designed to make the legs stand out and draw attention to the outfit.

Fishnet pantyhose

Fishnet tights have an open mesh structure similar to the nets used by fishermen. This mesh can have different hole sizes and usually offers a daring and eye-catching look. They can be worn for special occasions due to their sensual appearance and are also a popular choice among professional dancers, ballroom dancers, and even for carnivals.

Foot savers

Invisible sock that protects feet from chafing against footwear. Also, when worn over pantyhose, it extends their lifespan.SiliconeA rubber-like material that maintains its elasticity across a wide temperature range. It is used on the inner upper part of stockings to adhere to the skin and keep the stocking in place without the need for garters or suspenders.

G

Garter belt

A belt worn around the waist with several elastic straps that fasten to the stockings to keep them in place. It can be made of plain fabric, satin, or lace.

I

Ironing or shaping

A process applied to improve the final appearance of the garment. Once the product is made and sewn, it is placed on a metal leg that acts as a mold and is subjected to pressure and heat. This process gives the garment its characteristic leg and foot shape. The ironing can also be done straight across to avoid iron marks, especially on thicker pantyhose.

K

Knitted fabric

Knitting, or tricot, refers to a type of fabric commonly used in the manufacture of hosiery and other garments. Unlike woven fabrics, which are woven in only one direction, knitting is created through a knitting process that uses needles to form a pattern of interlocking loops.

Here are some of the key characteristics of knitting or tricot in hosiery manufacturing:

• Elasticity: Knit fabric is naturally elastic due to its interlocking loop structure. This allows the tights to stretch and fit snugly to the legs, providing comfort and a good fit.

• Comfort: The elasticity of knit fabric contributes to greater comfort, as it adapts to the contours of the legs without causing constriction.

• Breathability: Knit fabrics are generally more breathable precisely because of this open, interlocking loop structure.

L

Laser cutting

Instead of cutting the fabric with scissors or a machine, a laser is used, which makes the fabric not fray and gives it a precise, seamless edge.

League

A garter is a ribbon or band of elastic fabric used to hold stockings up to the thigh, common in bridal lingerie.

Low Rise

Low-rise panties have a waistband that sits below the natural waistline, usually around the hips, unlike mid-rise or high-rise panties that reach the waist or above. These panties are designed to sit below the navel, making them ideal for wearing with low-rise pants or skirts, as they won’t show above the waistband. They provide a snug and comfortable fit, making them less likely to roll down or shift.

M

Microfiber

Microfiber in pantyhose is a type of fabric made from extremely fine filaments, finer than silk. This material is characterized by being exceptionally soft to the touch, lightweight, and durable. It also allows for good airflow, helping to keep skin dry and comfortable. Microfiber is also excellent at wicking away moisture, making it ideal for pantyhose as it reduces sweat buildup. Thanks to its elasticity, microfiber pantyhose adapt well to the body, offering a snug and comfortable fit, and are very durable and resistant to wear and tear.

Mini stockings

Also called knee-high socks, they cover the foot and calf and reach just below the knee.

Molder

Shaping pantyhose are specially designed to enhance and shape certain areas of the body, such as the thighs, buttocks, and hips. They have reinforced panels in strategic areas that help to flatten and lift, creating a slimmer and more defined silhouette.

P

Pantyhose

It is the name given to pantyhose in several Latin American countries, such as Mexico or Venezuela.

Pantyhose without a gusset

A term used for pantyhose that have no fabric in the crotch area.

Pantys

A close-fitting garment that covers the legs and lower torso, from the toes to the waist. Usually made of a stretchy knit fabric, it provides a snug fit and is available in a wide range of thicknesses, colors, patterns, and prints.

Polyamide or nylon

Polyamide is a synthetic polymer known for its durability, strength, and flexibility. It is commonly used in textile manufacturing due to its resistance to wear, abrasion, and tearing, as well as its stretch and recovery capabilities. One of the best-known manufacturers of this yarn is NILIT.

Push Up

It’s an English term used to describe the effect of lifting and enhancing the buttocks, providing a firmer and more attractive appearance in this area. Push-up panties are made with a combination of elastic materials, strategic seams, and compression panels that provide the necessary firmness to lift and support the buttocks.

S

Seamless

Seamless pantyhose are typically knitted on a special machine and manufactured in one piece. They have no seams to dig into the skin, resulting in a completely transparent garment with no gusset or seams in the panty area. However, there is still no way to join the toe of the pantyhose without a seam, so that is unavoidable.

Self-fastening stockings

Self-supporting stockings stay in place without the need for garters or a suspender belt. They typically have two to four silicone strips on the inside of the elastic band. For the silicone to adhere properly to the skin, it must be free of oils or creams.

Skin Tones and Colors

• Porcelain/Central European or British Pink: This skin type is characterized by being paler and lighter. Our shades of dore, new nuage, or even ivory or capri are ideal for this skin type. Strong colors like burgundy and greens also work well.

• Olive/Mediterranean: For those with a golden undertone, we recommend choosing natural, sand, melis, brown, or tea. Colors like red or blue look good and stand out with this skin tone.

• Asian: This tone is defined by subtle hints of yellow and brown. Choosing a darker palette, such as earthy browns, teak, sand, or brown, can complement this tone, or you can opt for extremely light colors like dore, ivory, capri, or off-white to lighten the natural skin tone.

• Indian and African: Darker skin tones can choose dark shades like chocolate, teak, almond, or brown. They’re also excellent for creating contrast, so choosing something very light, like off-white or ivory, can work beautifully. As with Mediterranean skin tones, bright colors like red, blue, lilac, or burgundy will complement them perfectly.

Sockets

Also called ankle sock (see definition)

Socks

A classic in the world of lingerie, stockings were the first type of leg covering available and remain a timeless choice. They cover the leg from the feet to the upper thigh and can be self-supporting or require a garter belt or suspenders for support.

Spandex

In the United States, the term commonly used to refer to elastane is “spandex.” This synthetic fabric, made of polyurethane, is characterized by being lightweight, stretchy, durable, and waterproof. It is an excellent alternative for people with rubber allergies.

T

Toe or point

The toe of pantyhose and stockings can be invisible, reinforced invisible, or reinforced.

• The reinforced toe prevents tears in this area, providing greater durability. The fabric is thicker, darker, and more resistant, so these are typically worn with closed shoes.

• The reinforced invisible toe is virtually imperceptible, with the advantage that it won’t be noticeable when worn with sandals. However, the fabric is slightly thicker than the rest of the pantyhose, increasing its resistance and durability.

• The invisible toe has the same transparency as the rest of the garment, making it perfect for wearing with sandals or open-toed shoes.

Transparent

The term “sheer” is used to describe pantyhose, stockings, knee-highs, or socks made of very thin fabric that allows the skin to show through. Generally, the denier does not exceed 30, as above that point they begin to be semi-opaque.

U

Ultra-transparent

Ultra-sheer pantyhose has a thickness of 10 denier or less and is distinguished by its high transparency and lightness. It offers an almost invisible look, providing a sophisticated and refined appearance. This type of pantyhose is ideal for formal occasions at any time of year.

V

Vintage stockings

Vintage stockings are inspired by those worn by women in the 1940s and 50s. These stockings are usually sheer, made entirely of nylon, and have a hem at the top, which is where the garter straps are attached. They often have reinforced toes for added durability.

W

Waistband

The waistband of pantyhose is the elastic band located at the top of the garment, around the waist. Its main function is to keep the pantyhose in place, providing a comfortable and secure fit without them slipping or falling down.

Below are descriptions of the different types of pantyhose waistbands and their characteristics:

• Standard waistband: A simple elastic band, usually a few centimeters wide.

• Wide or extra-wide waistband: A band wider than the standard waistband, often 5 cm or more. It offers greater support and comfort, distributing pressure more evenly. It’s useful for preventing pantyhose from rolling down.

• Low-rise waistband: It sits lower on the waist, near the hips. Ideal for wearing with low-rise pants or skirts, offering a discreet fit that doesn’t show through clothing.
